Sophie Brion Neely is an emerging playwright and prose writer from southern California who grounds her writing in community-centered collaboration and interdisciplinary research. Following her time as editor-in-chief of the Elm City Echo, an advocacy-oriented literary magazine that develops the work of unhoused community members, she earned a research award from the Yale Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration to integrate archival research and personal interviews into her undergraduate thesis and first full-length play, Blessed Art Thou Among Women. Her poems, Glasses and Early Comedy, have been performed on the mainstage of Segerstrom Center for the Arts, and her short play, No Bad in Us, is being showcased in Kearny Street Workshop’s APAture: Embrace festival. She recently earned a BA in Ethnicity, Race, & Migration from Yale University.
