Moving Arts MADlab 2021 Playwright
(As of Yet Untitled Play)
by Sophie Brion Neely
Sophie Brion Neely is an emerging playwright and prose writer from southern California who grounds her writing in justice-centered community work and interdisciplinary research. Following her time as editor-in-chief of the Elm City Echo, an advocacy-oriented literary magazine that develops the work of unhoused community members, she earned a research award from the Yale Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration to integrate archival research and personal interviews into her undergraduate thesis and first full-length play, Blessed Art Thou Among Women. Beyond appearing in whacky hypotheticals for her English as a Second Language (ESL) students, her work has been developed in Orange County School of the Arts’ Playfests and performed at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. She recently earned a BA in Ethnicity, Race, & Migration from Yale University.
