DarinAnthonysMoving Arts, the award-winning Los Angeles-based theatre company celebrating its twentieth anniversary, embarks on a new chapter in its artistic progress with the naming of Darin Anthony as its new artistic director.

Moving Arts Board President and Founding Artistic Director Lee Wochner stated, “After reviewing many applications and interviewing several highly qualified finalists, the selection committee felt strongly that Darin Anthony was singularly prepared to take Moving Arts to the next level. Darin has committed his career to launching new plays; he is a top-notch director; he has been a respected collaborator with us several times, and he has a bold vision for where Moving Arts can go in the next few years.”

The selection committee made a unanimous recommendation to the company board. The board then voted unanimously to accept the recommendation and appoint Mr. Anthony.

The committee reflected the diversity of Moving Arts personnel and included Wendy Elizabeth Abraham, actor and membership manager; Daria Balling, actor; Michael Shutt, actor and former managing director; Mark Kinsey Stephenson, board treasurer and actor/director; JJ Strong, playwright; Sara Wagner, actor and producer of Moving Arts’ 20th anniversary season; and Mr. Wochner, who is a playwright and director.

Upon his appointment, Mr. Anthony responded, “I am honored and excited to be the new Artistic Director of Moving Arts. I feel the company’s dedication to new works is a perfect fit for my sensibilities and I can’t wait to collaborate with our extremely talented resident artists.”

Darin Anthony, educated at De Paul University, has earned a reputation as one of Los Angeles’ finest directors, working with an array of companies, among them Moving Arts; Furious Theatre; Syzygy Theatre Group; Blank Theater Company; West Coast Jewish Theatre; A Noise Within; Odyssey Theater Ensemble; The Road Theatre; and more.

A partial list of World and Los Angeles premiere shows that he has directed include “S.O.E.”; “The Closeness of the Horizon”; “The God of Isaac”; “Smudge”; “London’s Scars”; “The Book of Liz”; “A Hole in the Dark”; “Heads”; “Bach at Leipzig”; “US Drag”; “Sidhe”; and more.
